The short version. Stubby is a tool that helps you record and keep receipts. You own your data and can take it with you at any time. Stubby Plus is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple; the free features never depend on it. Stubby reads receipts with software that can make mistakes, so you check every entry before it is saved, and the app is not accounting or tax advice.
Stubby is made by Steelhead AI, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and operated by Jake Rosenegger. Questions about these terms go to support@stubby.money. Your use of the app is also covered by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement; where these terms and Apple's agreement differ, Apple's agreement governs your relationship with Apple and these terms govern your relationship with us.
Stubby records purchases you enter or photograph, files them under budget categories you choose, keeps the receipt images, and exports them. It reads receipts with optical character recognition and a language model. Those readings are suggestions: they can misread a total, a date, a tax line, or a category, and you review and confirm every entry before it is saved. Stubby does not give tax, accounting, or legal advice. The T2125 line numbers on categories are a convenience for organizing your records, not a determination of what is deductible; whether an expense is deductible is between you, the Canada Revenue Agency, and your accountant.
Everything you put into Stubby stays yours. It is stored on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if you turn sync on, as described in the privacy policy. You can export it as CSV or PDF at any time and delete it at any time. You are responsible for keeping backups that meet your own record-keeping obligations; Stubby helps, but a lost or wiped phone without a backup loses whatever was only on it.
Stubby Plus is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks unlimited AI receipt reads and statement imports. It is sold in two plans, monthly and yearly, at the prices shown in the app for your country, and may include a free trial for new subscribers. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or at the end of the free trial. The subscription renews automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it at any time in your iPhone's Settings under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions; cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps Plus active until the period you paid for ends. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. If Plus ends, the free features keep working and nothing you stored is removed: you can still view, search, and export every entry and every receipt image. Before you subscribe, every new install includes a fixed number of free AI reads so you can see how well Stubby reads your receipts.
Use Stubby for your own records. Do not try to defeat the free-read limit, reverse engineer the app, or use the reading service in a way that harms it or other users. We may suspend access to the reading service for abuse; your locally stored data is unaffected by that.
We can change the app, the free features, and the Plus features over time, and we will say so in release notes. Features that need a model or a network may be unavailable when the model, the network, or Apple's services are; the app itself keeps working with your stored data. If we ever discontinue Stubby, we will give notice and the export features will remain available for a reasonable period.
Stubby is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranty that readings are accurate or that the app is free of errors, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including missed deductions or penalties arising from records kept with the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Stubby Plus in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that consumer protection law in your province gives you and that cannot be waived.
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
If these terms change materially we will update the date at the top and mention it in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Stubby after a change means you accept the new terms.
